Coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot are covered out of the box through OpenTelemetry. Connectors to major EDR platforms – such as Microsoft Defender and CrowdStrike Falcon – bring unsanctioned MCP servers on developer machines into view. Container workloads are covered too, so agents built on your own compute are found alongside those on native platforms.

Connectors are read-only and nothing is installed on the systems being scanned. Every collection run updates the inventory, so it stays current as agents are created, changed and retired.

Discovered servers can be classified as sanctioned or unsanctioned. Sanctioned servers can be added to the Outerlimit MCP Gateway, with users pointed to a managed gateway endpoint. This provides a control framework and management layer between your AI clients and legitimate MCP servers, allowing you to control tool visibility and credentials, whilst providing detailed logging you didn’t possess before.

For unsanctioned servers, automated workflows can be built leveraging your existing EDR, XDR and SOAR processes to shutdown MCP usage. MCP discovery runs as an ongoing, continuous process, with alerts highlighted as and when new MCP servers arrive in to your environment.
