Every MCP request through the Outerlimit MCP Gateway creates a structured record and validation path. The gateway closes 3 specific gaps:
- Attribution: An upstream MCP server sees the gateway's service principal, not the human. The gateway is the only component positioned to bind a tool call to an authenticated user, a device, and a session.
- Retrospect: Incident response and SOC 2 evidence both need "show me every call this identity made to this server between these timestamps". This requires a single append only store, not per server logs in varying formats.
- Behavioural baseline: Detection on tool use volume spikes, first-time (potentially malicious) tool use, argument patterns that look like enumeration that need a uniform event stream to run against.
